SOUND VISION MACHINE
Lou Reed - Coney Island Baby Lou Reed / Coney Island Baby --"It was a propitious meeting. Diamond was a consummate producer and possessed of the sort of non-judgemental seriousness calculated to appeal to Lou's perfectionism. . . The combination of the two qualities allowed Diamond to give Reed the best production he has ever had in the studio. Diamond was aiming to re-establish Reed's commercial credibility without sacrificing his artistic integrity. Even today, 'Coney Island Baby' sounds unflawed, perfect in its balance of harmonies, and it remains for me the finest solo album that Lou Reed has put out in his long career. " - Waitin' For My Man, Jeremy Reed

hear "kicks" ...

Billy Squier -- "Godfrey pulled that record together,' says Squier. "He sat me down and reminded me of my strengths and what people found in my music. He restored my belief".
[Anthology liner notes 1996]
Billy Squier - Hear & Now

Aerosmith - Rock in a Hard Place Aerosmith / Rock in a Hard Place -- Pix of Steven and Godfrey workin' hard at the Record Plant,NYC.

The Bogmen - This is one of the most original bands I've ever worked with - and on a performance level only a handful of artists can touch Bill Campion - catch his latest incarnation as Vic Thrill www.victhrill.com Bogmen - Closed Caption Radio

Andrea True Connection - More, More, More Andrea True Connection - More, More, More - It all started with this #1 million seller!

Speedway - The band is from England. I discovered them one night by a chance visit to CBGBs, during the UK invasion (Oasis, Blur, Verve) and got them signed to Lava/Atlantic. Speedway

Piss Factory Piss Factory -- "jagged-edge sounds that hopscotch around atonality, feedback and straight-up hard rock . . . . the aural sear the band delivers on every one of the album's 12 tracks" - Magnet, October 1994

"It's a good, thick, sounding record with powerful guitars and a really cool rock n' roll beat" - Under the Volcano, Nesconset, NY Monthly, April 1994

Frank Sinatra - You're right, I'm too young to have done this LP, but I did record Frank's vocals on 4 songs, including a dance version of "Night & Day" in my early days at Media Sound - here's a pic of me with ol' blue eyes. Frank Sinatra

Electroman - Come Billy Squier / Anthology - This collection is a must have for anyone who has ever ROCKED!

Kool & the Gang - These guys taught me more about feel and rhythm in 15 minutes than Julliard could in a year. Kool and the Gang

Gloria Gaynor Gloria Gaynor - What can I say . . .mixing dance records by day - Mudd Club & CB's by night! Oooh the 70's

Billy Squier / Creatures of Habit - Four Letter Word is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever recorded, this album is straight from the heart. (We know this guy can rock but Billy can write a love song like no other!) Billy Squier - Creatures of Habit

Princess Superstar / Strictly Platinum recorded at Waterworks [Beck, Pavement, Luscious Jackson] Her effervescent rhyming overy clattering funk rock ain't amonochomatic drag, that's for sure. [Time Out Magazine, January 1997] Strictly Platinum is so now it's scary [CMJ, August 1996]

The Bogmen/Yellar - This was my first experience recording the Bogmen. Few people know about this rare CD that contains some of their best performances including "Timothy Leary's Dead". This ill-fated release was meant to coincide with the late psychedelic philosopher's death. The song was originally recorded by The Moody Blues. Tune in, Turn on and Drop out!

Pleather - Originally on Island Records as The Dragsters, this New York band fronted by Todd Novak was a fixture in the 90's East Village club scene.

Sparks -- These guys are hilarious. We mixed this album in 48 hours over a weekend and they made me laugh the entire time. "Big Boy" and "Fill 'Er Up" were used in the film Rollercoaster.

"Joey Ramone has told us that he wanted to do a version of this song, yet has never been able to convince the other Ramones."-- Sparks

Electroman - Come Electroman -- My friend Mars Williams (Psychedelic Furs and Billy Idol) turned me on to this guy Mark Freeland: the man behind Electroman. Truly one of the underground unsung heroes of the 80's -- This Buffalo, NY guy is a genius and no one will ever know.

Lou Reed - Thank God RCA finally put out a complete official Lou Reed box set. I happened to run into Lou during a mastering session for this album at Masterdisk, NYC, at which point we found out that RCA had lost the original masters to some of Lou's best albums including Transformer and Coney Island Baby (Nice RCA). He managed to get mixes from the original Coney Island Baby sessions from my private collection to use for this compilation -- I still haven't gotten them back. But, he gave me a nice thanks credit. Lou Reed - Anthology Boxed Set

Aerosmith - Pandora's Box Aerosmith - Steven woke me up one night at 4 am. We were recording "Jailbait". He asked me to drive him to 7-11 (His roadie Rockie had the night off). When we got there he proceeded to use his five finger discount and pick up various items and snacks off the shelves and put them in his pocket. As I saw the cop car pull up in front of the store, we were out of there.

Desmond Child and Rouge -- This was a band that Desmond Child was in before he got to be a big famous mainstream songwriter. It was great working with him in those days. And those girls "Rouge", what a blast. Dianna, Maria and Myriam - the best background vocal section in New York back then. Desmond Child and Rouge - Runners in the Night

22 Brides 22 Brides -- "I love the sound of this album, alternative folk flavor with the force of lean post-psychedelic rock . . . has atmospheric but hard-driving modal chords and tonalities."
- Billboard, Spotlight "jangly, tuneful and at times ethereal pop. The production by Godfrey Diamond and the band is very solid." CMJ
This is the first release for Zero Hour Records and it's still their best seller

Uncle Wiggly - Haling from New York City, UNCLE WIGGLY is made up of three of the most multi-directional swingers around! Jump Back Baby is the fourth studio album and Uncle Wiggly's best record yet. With their snappy toe-tappy tunes, power packed riffs and a dash of vintage 60's psychedelia they truly keep the heart of indie rock beating. You may know William Berger, who had The Hipbone Show for years on WFMU.

John Miles - Stranger in the City John Miles -- I was asked to mix this album by artist/producer; Rupert Holmes (who could drink more coffee in 15 minutes than I've ever seen a human consume). As for John Miles, this was a massive hit in England. However, the States never really got it.

Ian Lloyd - It was during our sessions for this Ian Lloyd album that Mick Jones met fellow sessionman Ian MacDonald and went on to form Foreigner.

Genya - And I Mean it Genya Ravan - These sessions were glittered with talent - It was the first time I worked with Mick Ronson (guitarist/arranger behind Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory; my fave Bowie period) and Ian Hunter (Mott The Hoople). The collaboration of the cast of characters involved culminates with "Junkman", a killer tune!
